curlews

Curlews are large, long-legged shorebirds with a very long, thin curved bill. Absolutely beautiful and wonderfully designed, not much comes close to looking like a Curlew in this region aside from a Whimbrel (whose bill is significantly shorter).  I really love their barring, feather pattern and specks of cinnamon coloring. The pink under the bill is a really sweet touch. 

Beautiful and not overly shy, they do require plenty of personal space for a successful birdwatch, so keep a good distance or they'll fly away!!
