Phalaropes

Wilson & Red-necked Phalaropes are our residents. They are the only shorebirds that regularly swim in deep water. They create a vortex by spinning in the water to bring up food when foraging.

I've only seen Wilson's Phalaropes once at the beach. This photoshoot was taken after a long rain in Galveston. The parking area at East beach flooded and they were playing in the puddles. I hope to see them again.

They are so elegant and beautiful. Dainty and detailed. Family oriented and friendly. Super peaceful. Gentle souls.
