red-winged blackbirds

Ah, the amazing Red-winged Blackbirds. You'll find them over the dunes, close to the beach. They are super hospitable, showy, proud, loving and beautiful! The males demand attention and adoration. The female is happy to be in the background and is much shyer than the males. That is, unless she has a young one with her, then she's a super proud mama. They stay close to family and friends and have multi-generational flocks.

I always make sure to be on the lookout for these Texas residents before walking along the shoreline.

Next: Ruddy Turnstones
